MINUTES
Golden Vista Computer Club Minutes
November 5, 2003
Meeting was called to order at 9:30AM by president, Paul Borne with 45
members present. Paul called for a motion approving the minutes of the
last meeting as
published. Motion was made and seconded. All approved.
Treasurer reported income and expenditures and noted that the balance as
of
this date was $939.27.
Thanks was given to Bob Burgi of the ad committee. He maintained the ads
throughout the summer and deposited the monies. We DO NEED more
volunteers to
help with this activity. Golden Vista RV Resort has a web site and the
board would like the Computer
Club to be in charge of manning and operating it. Do we have the
manpower to
do this? Can we, as a club, make this commitment? Should we form a
committee?
Ed Borner volunteered to start a committee to look into these questions?
On November 12 at 9:00AM in the Navajo Room, we will have a class on
cut,
copy and paste, and how to update your computer. On November 19, after a
short regular meeting we will have a guest
speaker…Jack Frost of BROADBAND INTERNET SERVICE. After a brief
question and answer period, the meeting was adjourned
Golden Vista Computer Club Minutes,
November 19, 2003
Meeting was called to order at 9:00AM by president, Paul Borne with 60
members present.
Paul called for a motion approving the minutes of the last meeting as
published. Motion was made and seconded. All approved.
Treasurer reported income and expenditures and noted that the balance as
of
this date was $1309.27.
Secretary asked all to check roster and be sure that all e mail
addresses are
current.
Ed Borner gave his report on the Golden Vista Web site. He met with park
manager and asked her what is expected if the Computer Club would be
responsible
for the site. The main objective is service to the park. It would have
to be
kept up to date and would like to see no additional fees being charged.
We
would need a webmaster that was proficient with HTML, would have to know
how to
put pictures on the web site, and would have the time for what the site
might
need.
There was much discussion. Arnold Dickinson, Bob Burgi, Paul Schmeil, Ed
Borner and Bob Wagenvoort volunteered to form a committee to learn what
might
have to be done.
President Paul Borne asked for a motion to purchase an additional
computer.
Should not be any more than $450.00 at Fry's Electronics. Motion made,
seconded and carried.
Discussion was started on raising the dues to $15.00 per family. Members
expressed opinion that they didn't see any reason to raise the dues
since all
new computers have been purchased. It was brought up to the membership
that we
might be illegal on the software we have on our 13 computers in the
computer
room. Do we need a "blanket" license for multiple computers?
Is there such a thing as a "school" license? Since no one knew the
answers
at this time, the raise of dues was tabled. Don Zimmerman volunteered to
find
the cost of legalizing our software.
There will NOT be a class on November 26, because of the holiday and the
fact
that the president will be out of town. There is an Apple keyboard and
computer available that was donated by someone
in the park. There will be fewer classes this year unless we get more
teachers. The
teachers that have volunteered in the past years need more time for
their other
pursuits.
The speaker today is Jack Frost from Broad Band. He is going to speak to
us
about a separate independent computer link to the outside world. We have
made no commitment, just gathering information.
Elections will take place at the January 7, 2004 meeting. Don Zimmerman,
Milt Quam, and Dick Kinnan volunteered to be on the election committee
to
present a slate of officers to the membership.
Motion made, seconded and carried to adjourn the meeting.
Golden Vista Computer Club Minutes,
December 3, 2003
Meeting was called to order at 9:00AM by president, Paul Borne with 41
members present. Paul called for a motion approving the minutes of the
last meeting as published. Motion was made and seconded. All approved.
Treasurer reported income and expenditures and noted that the balance as
of this date was $507.52 Secretary asked all to check and be sure that
e-mail addresses are current. Ed Borner gave his report on the Golden
Vista Web site. Those on the committee met with Dell, Park manager and
discussed the web site. Decision was made to take this year as a
training session to learn exactly what a web site entails. HTML is a
whole new process - it is like learning a whole new language. They are
going to work on a demo site and use the sewing club for an example.
Hopefully those learning this year can have classes next year to train
and teach others that are interested. Don Zimmerman has been busy
getting information on getting our computers legal. He has found OEM for
$40.00 per machine. This would include the operating systems for WORKS,
WORD, EXCEL, QUICKEN, and PRINTMASTER. To have everything legal it
should run from $2100-$2500. Paul read e-mail from a member that offered
to give $100.00 towards the process we need to "fix" the computers. Any
other offers? Motion was made and seconded to make the dues for this
coming year only to be $15.00 per household. Vote called for and the
nays have it…failed. After more discussion, motion was made and
seconded for the dues for the coming year only (2004) to be $10.00 for
first person in household and $5.00 for each additional person in
household. Motion carried. Paul purchased 2 computers from Fry's
Electronics for $410.77 each. Wants to thank the individual (non-member)
who went with him to purchase the second one since it was one to a
customer. However, apologies have to be made to Larry at Landmark. He
had been asked to build a computer for us and the price at Fry's was
much less than Larry could build it at this time, so we had to cancel.
XP64 will be out in the 1st quarter of 2004. There are many different
things that it will and will not do. If you are thinking of changing or
upgrading your computer…do it now and get XP before it is no longer
available. The new computers will have NO "floppies". You will need an
external drive or have all of your backup on CD's. The Computer Club now
has it's own mailbox. All correspondence should be mailed to 3710 S.
Goldfield Rd # 14. The Computer Club is going to subscribe to P C World.
The cost will be $20.00 for 1 year. The copy will be available to the
club on a first come basis. You are asked to keep it for a minimum time
so the rest of the members that want to can have access to it.
Suggestion was made to subscribe to Kim Komando. She has many excellent
computer tips. A lot of people will be shopping at Amazon.com this year.
Amazon has a customer service number that is not published. It is
1-800-201-7595. When we purchase the programs to upgrade and legalize
the computers, we will be getting programs at cost. Hopefully, we will
be able to extend this "at cost" to any members that might be interested
at the time. Arnie Dickinson is finishing up the current teaching of
Windows XP. He will have a new class starting on January 12, 2004. It
will run for 4 weeks (8 sessions) from 10:0AM to noon on Monday &
Thursdays. Registration will be at the next meeting. $16.00 for the
class and $20.00 for the book. When ordering any programs from the Video
Professor - be aware of their refund policy. A member bought QUICKEN
tutorial and returned it in the allotted time. However, the amount
billed was registered on their credit card the day it was shipped and if
and when they find the return back to the warehouse, they will credit
the refund. Could take 2 or 3 months!!!! New government recall site.
www.recall.gov Myra had an individual come into the office and volunteer
to have a demonstration on family tree. We will check on it and
hopefully have a presentation in the coming months. Don Zimmerman and
his nominating committee need applicants to run for offices in the
upcoming year. We need people for president, vice president, and
secretary/treasurer. Margaret Wallace has offered to run for Sec/Treas
again. Please call Don at 2482 or the members of his committee, Milt at
2047 or Dick at 2452 if you are interested or you know someone to
nominate. Elections will be January 7, 2004. There is a HP monitor and
printer available in the computer room. For information call President
Paul Borne at 2280. Classes??????? Jennifer Kieselhorst 2533 will teach
Printmaster basic starting December 9, 2003 for 3 classes on Tuesdays.
They will be at 9:00AM in the computer room. Fees will be $6.00. There
is room for 3 more at this time. Keith Sjoholm will teach a WORD class
in 2004. Date will be announced at a later date. Motion made and
seconded to adjourn.

members present.
Paul called for a motion approving the minutes of the last meeting as
published. Motion was made and seconded. All approved.
Treasurer reported income and expenditures and noted that the balance as
of
this date was $564.18.
Part of the income for this period was $22.00 from turning in cartridges
to a
company that refills them. When you empty an ink cartridge, please save
it
and bring it to a meeting or contact Margaret at 2694. This is another
way to
raise money for the club.
Paul announced that the by laws changes that were brought up at the
December
17, 2003 meeting needed to be voted on. He stated that his main
objective for
the by law changes was to get more people participating and get "new
blood"
on the board.
Paul asked Margaret Wallace to read the by laws as written, and he would
read
the proposed changes.
By Laws read:

Paul stated "Before we get into the new business part of the meeting, I
want
to thank all of you for your support. You have been a great help to the
club
and to me personally. You know there is more to it than just belonging
to an
organization, you must be willing to participate by helping out in any
way
that you can. You have been great and I cannot thank you enough. This is
one
of the best clubs, if not the best club, in Golden Vista and I'm proud
to say
that I have been a part of its progress. We have accomplished so much in
the
past two years. I am disappointed, however, that those of you who have
the
qualifications (what ever they may be) have not come forward and
volunteered
your services to run for the elected positions. You know that everyone
can give an
excuse as to why he or she cannot do this or that. When you volunteer to
help, it says, 'I care what happens to this club's future.' I have done
my
part; now it is your turn to step forward and do your part. This club
deserves
you!"
Don Zimmerman was asked to present his slate of officers for the 2004
year.
Don thanked his committee, Milt Quam and Dick Kinnan. He stated that
they
called many club members and tried to put faces to names. He stated he
has
candidates for all of the offices except President. No one volunteered
or
presented any nominations from the floor. Paul Borne, out going
president was asked to
explain what exactly the office actually entails. Martial Laliberte,
former
President also gave his comments on the office. After much discussing,
cajoling, begging
etc., Don presented the new slate of officers to the membership.

Olson, secretary and Margaret Wallace treasurer.
Motion was made and seconded to accept these candidates as the new
officers
for 2004. Motion carried.

GOLDEN VISTA COMPUTER CLUB MINUTES
February 18, 2004
Meeting was called to order at 9:00AM by vice-president, Maxine Anderson
with 70 members present.
Maxine asked that the minutes of the last meeting be accepted as
published. Treasurer reported income and expenditures since January 21,
2004 and noted that the balance as of this date was $2,799.09. She noted
that we received $61.00 from turning in the empty cartridges that the
club had provided.
Don Zimmerman was asked to give a report on the purchase of Windows XP
programs that had been approved at the last meeting. The program is
$73.00.
Don noted that his source had very few copies left so that he was
ordering them on February 19. If anyone is interested, that should
contact him immediately at donzimmenmann@aol.com.
There was a discussion on how to upgrade to XP. A member commented that
XP may not be compatible to some of the programs that you presently have
on your computer.
It had been suggested that a spare bulb should be purchased for the
overhead projector. This projector is used extensively for presentations
and teaching.
However, the bulb will cost $356.00. Paul Smiel made a motion and Ed
Borner seconded to allow $400.00 for the purchase of this bulb. Motion
carried.
Bob Wagenvoort asked that someone in the club use their credit card for
the purchase since Bob is from Canada and it “messes up” the rate of
exchange. Chuck Hillen volunteered to oblige.
Ed Borner from the audit committee thanked Joyce Blankenbaker for
assisting him with the audit. They completed their audit and read their
report outlining their suggestions for the Treasurer and handling of
monies for the coming year.
Bob Wagenvoort reported that he had been having trouble getting hold of
the DSL men but hopefully today the computer for the park Internet
access will be hooked up.
There was no report on the web site or want ads.
Elaine Olson, Education coordinator, announced that the club has
purchased 4 “Printmaster 12” programs from the Internet. They can be
purchased for $15.00 each. This will be the program that will be taught
by the club at future sessions.
There will be a beginners class for 12 students on February 27 from
10:00AM –Noon. Contact Elaine at 2695.
There will be an Advanced Printmaster Class from 8:00-10:00AM on
February 24. There is room for 5 students.
Maxine announced that a HP printer with ink was donated to the club and
is on the back table. Anyone that can use it, please help yourself and
maybe make a small donation to the club.
The education committee is trying to set up programs that will help
Internet users with their individual providers. There will be a session
on March 3 for AOL, and one for Juno users on March 10.
Saint Patricks Day is March 17 and the resort has many plans for that
day’s celebration. The Golden Vista Computer Club board has decided to
cancel their regular meeting for that day. March regular meetings will
be on March 3 and 24th and the “mini-sessions” will be March 10 and
March 31.
Please continue to bring in your empty computer ink cartridges to the
Computer Club in plastic bags, one to a bag. We recycle them to a
company that refills them, and they compensate the club. We have
collected $83.00 this season for the club.
Check the bulletin board and Channel 7 for announcements for upcoming
events and programs sponsored by the Computer Club. On February 25, Bob
Wagenvoort will present “Understanding the Computer” at 9:00AM in
the Navajo Room.
Maxine read a thank you from a Computer Club member
Meeting adhourned.
