GOLDEN VISTA COMPUTER CLUB MINUTES
November 17, 2004
Meeting called to order at 9:00AM by President, Arvella Taratuta with
36 members present.
Minutes approved as published. Margaret Wallace, treasurer read the
income and expenses and stated that the total in the treasury at this
time was $2,352.61.
Old Business:
Arnie Dickinson, a member of the web committee reported that the Web
page has been brought up to date. A motion was made and seconded to
purchase 3 "Front Page" software for the current members of the web
committee so that the Web page can stay current year-round and also so
that the members can work on the Web page from their home computer.
Motion carried
New Business:
Elaine Olson explained that the business cards that we print have
become more detailed and elaborate. She suggested that the price of
colorized business cards should be raised. Motion made and seconded to
raise the first page of business cards to $2.50 and each additional page
raised to 1.50.
Motion carried. Price of labels will remain the same
Arvella asked for a committee to address the window coverings. It was
very difficult to see the person talking and the glare was hard on
member's eyes while trying to look at the screen. Ed Borner, Sandra
Dickinson, and Shirley Steffen volunteered. A motion was made and
seconded to budget up to $600 for window coverings for the TV/game room.
Motion carried.
Arvella will talk to Dell for permission to replace these coverings.
She will also ask if the board could approve ½ of the cost since they
are park improvements.

Treasurer, Margaret Wallace, read the income and expenses and stated
that the balance at this time is $2,402.59.
Committee Reports:
Window Covering:
Shirley Steffen reported that the committee found nice material that
will work very well for $110.50 total. They will need volunteers to help
with the sewing (5) plus a couple volunteers to help install them.
Wireless Internet:
After checking into this project a motion was made and seconded to
rescind the motion of the last meeting and not put in wireless Internet.
Motion carried.

Computer Club Minutes
January 5, 2005
Meeting called to order by President Arvella Taratuta with 75 members
present. Minutes approved as published. Treasurer, Margaret Wallace read
the income and expenses stating the balance at this time are $992.62.
Old Business:
None at this time
New Business:
Microsoft Office student/teacher edition software. Bob Wagenvoort
reported that we could purchase this software for about $130.00 and
legally put it on 3 computers. In that case we would need 5. Discussion
held. A motion made and seconded to purchase 1 and review the contents;
if it would work for us we would purchase the remaining 4. Motion
carried.
Election of Officers:
President and Secretary offices are up as of February 2nd. Arvella
agreed to run for another term. . Vice-President, Maxine Anderson,
resigned for the rest of her term. We need volunteers to run for these
offices.
Volunteers:
Arvella stated that it seems that the volunteers are always the same
people. We need to all consider volunteering. Think about all the
benefits you receive being a member of the computer club. Please
consider volunteering for jobs needed. Arvella asked for volunteers to
work on an audit. Ed Borner and Flora Tevis volunteered.
GVCC Open House: Our open house is scheduled for Wednesday, January
12th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. At 9:00 we will have a class on Word
Processing. This class and the open house are open to the whole park. It
will be a time for everyone to see our new area above the Library. Meet
club Officers and Teachers, see what classes are being offered.
Refreshment will be served.
Super Bowl Party:
Arvella ask for committee for this. Shirley Steffen agreed to head up
the committee and several volunteered to work with her. The game will be
Feb. 6th in the Ballroom at 4:00 p.m. Food and refreshments will be
available. BYOB. There will be a 50/50 and gaming boards. Everyone will
need to pick up a free ticket in the Activities Office for a head count.
The Super Bowl Game will be on a 9’X12’ screen so everyone will be able
to see. Lots of fun in store come and join us.
Committee Reports:
Shirley Steffen reported progress on the curtains. They will be
working on them this Friday and if there is anyone who would like to
help please come to the computer room Friday morning, January 7th.
Nominating Committee:
Don Zimmermann will head up this committee and would like volunteers
to help him.
Announcements:
Country Store: We have Country Store Wednesday, January 12th. We need
volunteers to take orders for cards and labels.
Classes:
Windows XP, 4 weeks starting Jan. 3rd. Class Full, Excel, 3 weeks
starting Wednesday Jan. 12th. Advanced Print Master, 3 weeks starting
Jan. 14th, Basic Print Master, 3 weeks starting Jan. 18th. Quicken, 3
weeks starting Feb. 2nd, Windows XP, 4 weeks starting February 7th.
Class Full. On January 11th Beginning Computer from Noon to 2:00 p.m.
FREE
A discussion was held on teaching a keyboarding class. It would be a
class to teach the keyboard and how to type.
A discussion was held on purchasing a big screen. Bob Wagenvoort
reported the screen is 9’X12’ and the cost would be around $1,200.00.

Meeting called to order by President Arvella with 73 members present.

income and expenses stating the balance at this time $1,910.87.

Paul Schmeil reported on a class “Picture It” (handling pictures, red
out & etc.) starting on January 27th. He is looking for volunteers to
help with the class. If anyone is interested please contact Paul.
Bob Wagenvoort reported on the need for a larger screen for teaching.
He checked on a screen 84 X 84 hanging from the ceiling for
approximately $342.00. Bob would be able to install it. We can check
around for a cheaper screen. There was a motion made and seconded to
purchase a larger screen for $342.00 or less. Discussion, motion
carried.
Committee Reports:
Shirley Steffen reported on the Super Bowl Party. Everything is going
very well but we do need volunteers for cake and or pies and workers the
day of the Super Bowl Party. The gaming boards are now out and anyone
who wants to participate but not wanting to gamble can buy a space on
the board and put GVCC on the square that way if that square wins the
computer club will get all the money.
Elaine Olson reported on the classes explaining a little about each
class. There are some with a couple openings. Also, anyone willing to
volunteer to teach, monitor or assist teaching please call Elaine.
Don Zimmermann reported on the Election Committee: We have the
following members willing to run for office. President. Arvella Taratuta,
Vice President, Bob Wagenvoort and Secretary, Barbara Bissell. The
election will be February 2nd.
Announcements:
The Open House held on January 12th was very successful. It was
decided to make this an annual event being held the 2nd Wednesday of
January. Discussion held on things we could do to make it better. The
cards and labels at the Country Store went well. President Arvella asked
for any pictures you might have and be willing to share of our resort or
scenic pictures of the area for a project in the near future.
It was reported that anyone who had rain checks on the Print Master
16 they are now available. Also, there is Print Master 12 on the
Internet for free with cost of shipping and handling.

Meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by vice-president, Maxine
Anderson, with 70 members present.
Maxine called for a motion approving the minutes of the last meeting
as published. Motion was made and seconded. Motion approved.

By-Law Changes:
Don Zimmermann presented the change to Article X as follows:
Article X: Amendment of By-Laws
These By-Laws may be amended by announcement and reading of the
proposed amendments at the GVCC meeting preceding the GVCC meeting where
amendments are to be considered and voted upon. An affirmative vote in
favor of each amendment by at least two thirds of the members present is
required for passage of each amendment.

Maxine called for a motion to accept this By-Law change. Motion was
made and seconded, discussion, motioned approved.
Bob Burgi presented the next By-Law change to Article V as follows:
Article V: Officers
The officers of the GVCC will be a President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer. Officers are elected for a two-year term.
Officers will be elected at the first meeting of the GVCC during the
month of January, by majority vote of members. Officers may be elected
for two consecutive terms in the same position. Officers shall hold only
one position at a time. The terms of President & Secretary will run
concurrently, as will those of Vice President and Treasurer. The
President and Secretary’s terms will expire on the odd year, the Vice
President and Treasurer’s on the even year. If an officer fails to
return to Golden Vista RV Resort by the following November, or otherwise
is unable to serve, a special election will be called to elect his /her
successor. Any officer may be removed from office by the votes of two
thirds of the members present at the meeting such removal is considered.
No officer will be compensated.

Darlene Olson presented the By-Law change to Treasurer as follows:

Software:
Don Zimmermann reported his findings on purchasing the operating
program Windows XP for the eleven computers in the computer room. The
cost would be approximately $73.00 per computer including tax and
handling which would amount to be a little over $800.00. Maxine called
for a motion to buy the XP program for all the computers needing it. A
motion was made and seconded. Discussion, motion approved. It was also
suggested we made the program available to all members at that price
providing they are paid for in advance. Anyone interested in purchasing
XP are to contact Don Zimmermann. The deadline for this order would be
the first Wednesday in March.

Audit:
Ed Borner reported that the audit would be ready by the next meeting.
DSL Connection:
Bob Wagenvoort reported the work being done on this project. At this
time the Internet access for the park would be located in the Library.
The cost of DSL is $19.95 a month for 6 months or more and $24.95 a
month for less than 6 months plus the one time charge of $100.00 for the
modem box.
GVCC Web:
Ed Borner and his committee reported on the construction of the web
site. The web site is now available. The Computer Club Ad’s are on the
site. To get to this location go to gvrv.us, check it out, it is neat.
Ads:
Bob Burgi reported on this committee. The ads are doing well. The
cost is only $1.00 for an ad and $2.00 for a picture.
Education:
Elaine Olson reported on the classes going on at this time. All the
classes are full with the exception of Print Master Beginners. The
teachers thanked all the teacher assistants and the students. It has
been a very good year. Elaine also mentioned getting teachers lined up
for next year.
Cards & Labels:
Bill Burke is taking care of this program. He is looking for help on
the Wednesday lunches at the pool, setting up a table and selling cards
and labels. Please contact him if you would be able to help.
Announcements:
Please remember to bring your empty ink cartridges, in a separate
plastic bag, to the club.
Next Wednesday, February 11th, the mini class is making photo
calendars.

February 16, 2005
The meeting was called to order by President Arvella at 9:00 o’clock
with 64 Members present. The minutes were approved as published. The
Treasurer, Margaret Wallace, reported the income and expenses stating
the balance at this time as $2,247.10.
Committee Reports:
Shirley Steffan gave the Super Bowl Report. She thanked her committee
and all who helped in any way and said a profit of $615.33 was realized.
Much was learned this year on how to run this event and plans are being
formulated to make the day more profitable next year. Shirley asked for
suggestions and many were given which will be considered.
Unfinished Business:
More help is going to be needed next year on the Ad’s Committee. The
Motion was made and seconded to charge a one time fee of $3.00 for
set-up if a picture is to be used with the Ad. The motion was approved
after discussion.
Elaine made the plea for more helpers. More Classes are being planned
and helpers are needed in each. If you have taken the class in the past,
do consider being a helper. Contact Elaine if you can assist.
New Business:
Arvella said that six new chairs were purchased with the money
approved at the last meeting. However, she mentioned that since they
were on sale and to have all the chairs alike, she purchased six
additional ones. A motion was made and seconded to purchase the
additional six chairs. Arvella was very happy when the motion was
approved.
The motion was made and seconded to donate $500 from the Super Bowl
money to the Activity Office toward the screen. The motion was approved.
Bob W. reported that he had found a Trouble Shooting Maintenance CD
for $89 which would be of considerable help to him in keeping the
computers in good working order. The motion was made and seconded to
purchase this CD. The motion was approved.
It was announced that the rooms have been reserved for next year.
Volunteers are needed. A page was passed for members to sign up as
Assistant Teachers, Publicity Chairman to work with the President, Ad’s
Committee helpers for next year, and those who will help One on One with
new members or others who need help in their home.
It was suggested that a box be put by the computer in the Library for
donations toward the paper and ink.
It was asked if print-outs could be made available for those not able
to take a class. This will be brought under consideration.
Announcements:
Two computer chairs are for sale - $10.00 each.
The ‘Picture It’ program is available thru Paul Schmeil for $11.00.
Next Wednesday, Feb. 23, the program will be presented by Ruth
Rinus’s daughter, Shauna Rina, who has a business called Shauna Rina’s
Designs. Shauna does air brushing techniques and other things to
photographs for magazines. Do plan on attending this interesting
presentation.
Classes:
Elaine Olson reported on all the classes, dates and openings. The
list will be posted on the Computer board by the mail boxes.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 after which Paul Schmeil presented a
very informative program on Folders, Files and Extensions.

March 2, 2005
The meeting was called to order by President Arvella at 9:00 o’clock
with 41 members present. The minutes were approved as published. The
Treasurer, Margaret Wallace, reported the income and expenses stating
the balance on hand to be $1,841.89.
There was no Old Business, New Business or Committee Reports to be
given.
Announcements
A basket has been placed on the sign-in table for computer questions.
Please bring your questions to our Wednesday Meetings and place them in
the basket. They will be read during our Q & A period at the end of the
meeting and we will try to answer them. Arvella told us that she saw
another Ad in the paper for computer chairs which was cheaper than what
was expended on the 12 purchased. She approached the store in which she
purchased them and they agreed to honor the lesser price, with the
stipulation that she purchase a service agreement, and gave her a check
for the difference. A meeting with the DSL people is planned this week
and we will try to
have more information for you at our next meeting. Paul Schmeil has
gone home for the funeral of his Mother who recently
celebrated her 100th Birthday. Our thoughts are with him and his
family.
Arvella announced that she had 6 copies of ‘Picture It’ at $11 and 2
copies of "PDF" Software at $4.25 that Paul purchased. They will be
available for sale after the meeting.
Cards & Labels will be available to order at the Country Store on
Wed., March 9, 2005. They will, also, be available at the "Show & Tell"
on Wed., March 16 at 7 PM.
It was announced that there was some old equipment which is scheduled
to be disposed of. Anyone is welcome to help themselves after the
meeting.
A new Volunteer List was passed. Several signed up but we still need
more help. Some of the areas in which you can help is Housekeeping
(vacuuming & dusting the Computer Room once a week), Setting Up Chairs
before the meetings, Helping other on a One/One Basis, Taking Orders for
the Labels & Cards on Country Store Day, Helping with the Want Ads and,
of course,
Teaching a Class or being an Assistant. Please contact Arvella or
anyone on the Computer Board if you are willingto help in any way.
Classes
Elaine said the Classes are winding down for this year. Classes still
being taught this month are Advanced PrintMaster on Thursday March 10,
17 and 24 from 9-11 AM, Basic Photo Editing on Friday, March 11 from
9-11 AM, ‘ Picture It’ on Thursday, March 10 & 17 from 1-3 PM and
Beginners PrintMaster on Tuesday March 8, 15 & 22 at 1-3 PM. It was
suggested that
possibly sign-up sheets for those classes being taught next November
be available this month. Only those who are positive that they will be
back in November should sign up. Classes are ONLY available for those
who are members of the Computer Club.
The meeting adjourned and Mike Bonner from Office Max tried to answer
all our questions on a variety of subjects. All present enjoyed this
very out going young man and he was asked to possibly return next year.
Next week, March 9th, Larry from Land Mark Computers will be our
speaker. Do try to attend to support our guest speaker. On March 16th
Keith will present a program on "Word" – Columns and inserting pictures
in your Christmas Letter and on March 23rd Keith is going to demo the
new three in one printer/copier/scanner.

March 16, 2005
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Bob Wagenvoort at
9:00 o’clock with 50 members present. The minutes were approved as
published. The Treasurer, Margaret Wallace, gave her report and said the
balance on hand was $1,961.77.
There was no Old Business or Committee Reports.
New Business
Bob brought up as a suggestion for the Long Range Committee of our
Park to make Internet Access available to everyone in the Park and
possibly having the phone service built into the dues like cable TV.
This suggestion can be added onto the Long Range survey form which is
due into the office by this Friday.
The reference book “The Secret Guide to Computers” was discussed. It
is available for $8.00 through the Arizona Alliance of Computer Clubs.
The book is a comprehensive journal on programs, programming, etc. and a
good reference book to have on hand to look up all sorts of information
in. The Arizona Alliance of Computer Clubs meets once a month at Las
Palmas Grande at which time they have a different guest speaker. It was
voted for us to join this Club in the fall. The cost is $25.00/year and
our Club would send a representative to these meetings. Therefore, the
reference book would be available for purchase in the fall.
The PC Travel Guide disk is available in the Computer Room for those
interested.
Margaret has the sign-up sheet for the XP Class in November.
Cards & Labels will be available to order at the “Show & Tell”
tonight in the Ball Room. Helpers are needed.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 after which Keith presented a
program on Creating Columns in WORD. He took us from start to finish
creating a Christmas letter including pictures. He then answered a
variety of questions from those present.
