November 1, 2006
President Arvella called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM with 49 members
present.
The Treasurer, Bob Burgi, gave his report. He noted that most of our
money
was spent with the improvements made to the Computer Room. He itemized
each expenditure and reported that we now have a balance of $244.14. The
Ads during the summer added needed income as did the empty ink
cartridges. Please continue to save the cartridges and deposit them in
the box across from the mailboxes or bring them to the Computer Room.
Arvella mentioned how nice the Computer Room looked and hoped all had
taken the
time to look at the new set up. Thanks was given to all who helped last
spring empty
the room and a special thank you for those who helped Bob Burgi bring
all the
equipment back. Bob told the story of how he got stuck in the elevator

Ken Bellin and others for helping him. We especially want to thank Bob
Wagenvoort
for all he has done and for setting up all the computers and sound
system for us.

naturally come in slow.

86 members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as
printed. The treasurer, Bob Burgi, gave an in depth report of

any way from making posters, decorations, workers, servers, Activity
Office, Bob W. for running the projector, setting up, to the donation of
the delicious pies. Around $300 was realized from the afternoon. He
suggested that next year some sort of sandwiches be served in lieu of
pizza and Nachos. It was voted to do this again next year as a
fundraiser.
OLD BUSINESS:
ELECTION: Dick Kinnan said the Nominating Committee had worked hard to
get a new slate of officers, however, no one volunteered to fill any of
the positions. Therefore, the names of President: Arvella Taratuta,
Secretary: Barbara Bissell, and Vice President: Cricket Olson (to fill
the vacancy for Maxine Anderson
who resigned because she wasn’t able to be in the Park enough) were
presented and the slate was voted on and elected. Judi Schulz got up and
thanked all the officers and teachers for their dedication and good
work.
NEW BUSINESS;
SOFTWARE: Bob Wagonvoort explained that 9 of the computers needed to be
brought up-to-date with more memory, hard drives, DVD burners, etc. He
said he had talked to Larry and it would cost about $3,550. He mentioned
that they realize Vista is now going to be in all new computers,
however, it really isn’t any different than XP unless you get the
professional version. The computer upgrades are going to be looked into.
WIRELESS: Bob said that the Internet was now working in the Computer
Room, however, the Internet will be restricted to only the computers in
the room – NO LAPTOPS. Once the service is up and running fully, unless
your laptop is signed up for the service in the Park, NO service will be
available for FREE. Larry gives an update of the service each Monday
morning at Chit Chat. They are waiting for another piece of equipment to
fix the problem they are having with the system. Rosella will look into

gave his report with a balance of $5,742.69 in the treasury.

program was about. It will cost $375 to buy the program. A clipboard was

program at $25 each. It was voted to purchase the program and Elaine
will teach the Class in March which will take about 3 sessions.
New Business:
Audit and Inventory: Arvella said it was time to Audit the books and to
do the Inventory. She asked for helpers. Pat Galyardt volunteered to do
the Audit with Barbara Bissell helping and Judy Armstrong volunteered to
help Arvella with the Inventory.
Announcements:
Casino Bus Trip: Remember to sign up for the Casino Bus on Monday, March
19. This is a good money making project and we would like to have the
bus filled. A signup sheet was passed around.
Long Range Goals:
The long range goal is to earn enough money to replace and update all
the equipment. Because Vista is now coming out on all new computers and
all the problems with a new system have not been worked out yet, the
date to purchase the new computers has not yet been established –
possibly not until next spring or fall 2008. Ted Linderman spoke on a
lot of pros and cons about the new Vista since he has it on his
computers. Many of our programs, such as Works, are old and need to be
updated and this would automatically be done with new computers.
However, until we are all familiar with the new Vista, it was suggested
we keep earning money so we have enough when the time is right to make
this huge purchase.
Classes:
Barbara noted all the upcoming classes which are scheduled. Creata Card
(cancelled), Very Beginners, Picture It (Photo Editing) which only has a
couple of openings and needs helpers, Beginner Printmaster (cancelled)
and Printmaster Mail Merge. Check the board by the mailroom for dates
and times.
The group was asked what new classes they would like to have next
season. Also, is there anyone interested in teaching any class. Barbara
noted that all the teachers, officers and helpers VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME
and WERE NOT PAID ANYTHING.
The meeting adjourned at 10 AM after which Keith answered questions and
finished his program from last week.
Upcoming Programs:
Feb. 28 “On-Line Banking” by Maria Guasp from Wells Fargo
March 7 – PowerPoint Presentation by Bob Golay.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Bissell, Sec.
MARCH 7, 2007
At 9:30 AM President Avella called the Computer Club to order with 63
members present. The Minutes of our last meeting were approved as
printed. Arvella read Bob Burgi, our treasurer’s report, which said we
have a balance of $6,451.30. Bob was absent due to a cut finger.
COMITTEE REPORTS:
March 28th BBQ: Shirley Steffan has agreed to chair the BBQ. She
suggested that this time we serve pies and baked potatoes. She passed
signup sheets for all the helpers needed plus one for the pies (or
cakes). Since more helpers are needed, the signup sheets will be passed
again next week.
Wireless: Larry came in to give us an update on the Wireless problem.
They finally determined that our main equipment was defective. The
manufacturing company will replace it and it should arrive next week.
Hopefully the wireless will be up and running properly after the new
equipment is installed.
NEW BUSINESS;
By-Law Changes: Arvella stated that the Club would like to have a change
in our By-Laws. Since Bob Burgi, our Treasurer, is a full time GV
resident and Bob Wagenvoort, our Technician, is frequently in the Park
during the summer when the Activities Office is not open, we would like
to be able to obtain funds from a local bank or to be able to write
checks.
At present the By-Laws Read:
All cash receipts received by the Treasurer will be deposited to a GV
Computer Club account established with the GV Activities Office.
The Treasurer will be the GVCC interface with the Activities Office to
withdraw funds as required and approved by the GVCC. All expenditures
over $100 for NEW ITEMS will require the approval of the general
membership. Replacement of existing items need not have general
membership approval.
Recommended change to read:
All cash receipts received by the Treasurer will be deposited to a GVCC
account established with the GV Activities Office and / or a local bank
establishment conveniently located to Golden Vista. The Treasurer and
one other officer will be the GVCC interface with the Activities Office
and/or bank to withdraw funds and make deposits as required and approved
by the GVCC.
All expenditures over $150 for NEW ITEMS will required the approval of
the general membership. Replacement of existing items need not have
general membership approval.
Paul Schmeil made the motion to accept the change and his motion was
seconded, however, since this is a change to the By-laws, Bernie
Bachtold moved that this be tabled until our next Business Meeting which
will be March 21.
Flat Screen Monitors: Since the Club isn’t going to purchase new
computers until the Fall of 2008, Arvella asked for a motion to purchase
new Flat Screen Monitors this Fall so they will be ready for use next
season. Paul Schmeil made the motion to authorize $2,000 to purchase the
monitors. It was seconded by Bob Golay. Bob Griswold asked if it
wouldn’t be better to wait and possibly purchase laptops instead of
towers. Arnie said that though most people are honest, there is no one
around in the summer which would make all those laptops very inviting to
steal. Also, Bob Wagenvoort is able to work on towers and laptops aren’t
as durable for use by so many members. The original motion by Paul was
voted and approved.
CLASSES:
Elaine spoke on the upcoming classes. She emphasized that you MUST be a
Computer Club member to take a class.
Beginners – One on One: Mon., March 12 10-12 AM. This is for anyone who
needs help on anything in their computer and will be a One on One
Session.
Photo Show: So many signed up for this class it is going to be done in
two groups; one in the evening and one in the afternoon. The cost is $27
for the program plus $6 for the classes making a total of $33 payable
before the class begins. The Sessions will be March 9, 13 & 16 from
6:30-8:30. The second Group will be March 20, 23 & 26 from 2:00-4:00.

so please sign up soon and gets your friends to go with you. This is a
good money making project for the Club.
Country Store is next week. Don’t forget to order your labels and cards
before you leave.
The meeting adjourned at 10:02 after which Bob Golay gave a very
interesting PowerPoint Presentation. There seemed to be so much interest
in this, he was asked to give a class on this next year.

The
final Computer Club meeting of the season
was called to order by the President,
Arvella, at 9:30 AM with 45 members
present. The Minutes of the March 7th
meeting were approved as printed. The
Treasurer, Bob, reported that we have $7,489
in our treasury, however, he had the bill
for the Photo Program to pay out of that
plus the new Monitors, which will be
purchased next fall. Arvella thanked
everyone who had worked on any of the
various money making projects held this
winter. Without volunteers we never could
have raised so much.
Committee Reports:
Shirley Steffan reported on next week’s BBQ
which will be Wed., March 28. She still
needed helper for set-up at 8 AM and
cleanup. Several volunteered. She, too,
thanked everyone for being willing to help.
Arvella asked Shirley if she would be
willing to head-up the BBQs next season and
she said she would.
Unfinished Business:
By-Law Change:
The proposed By-Law change was read and
discussed. The motion was voted on and
passed unanimously.
Inventory:
An inventory was taken and the only new
piece of equipment was found to be a pencil
sharpener.
Bank Account:
To comply with the By-Law change a Bank
account will be opened so business can be
done during the summer when the Activity
Office is closed.
New Business:
Vista Training:
Arnie has looked into a class for Vista at
the College. None will be held until next
January. It was suggested that members
upgrading to Vista take a class, or learn
the new system this summer so information
can be shared this fall. Arnie’s next XP
Class will start Nov. 12.
Announcements:
Casino Trip:
The Casino Trip was last Monday with 41
people going. Arvella suggested having only
one trip next season, possibly the 3rd
week in Jan.
Storing your INK:
Make sure you remove your Ink Cartridges
from your printer if you have an HP
printer. Cover the exposed area with a
small piece of cardboard and place in a
plastic bag. Put this bag in another
plastic bag with a damp paper towel then
store in a jar in your refrigerator. If you
have an Epson printer it is believed
that you just leave the ink cartridge in
your printer. Don’t forget to save the
used cartridges.
Tee Shirts:
Someone has offered to make up to 30 Tee
Shirts with Computer Club written on it for
about $15 each this summer. A clipboard was
sent around for names of those interested
and sizes. The shirts are forest green with
yellow writing.
Help Needed:
Elaine spoke on the need for getting a
committee next season to help set up the
room for the meetings. The computer,
screen, sound system plus the chairs all
need to be done each Wed. before the meeting
starts. Also, the Computer Room needs to
have someone or a committee taking turns to
clean (dust, vacuum and sterilize the
keyboards) once a week.
Thank You:
Paul Borne asked Arvella to thank the
Computer Club for the support given him in
his election to the Park Board.
Wireless:
I spoke to Larry concerning
the wireless this morning. He told me that
a new Manufacturing Company has been
contacted and the new equipment will be here
before the end of the month. All the old
equipment will be replaced and the new
equipment should give a much stronger
signal. Sturdier pole are, also, being
looked into. Larry will post on the TV when
everything is up and running smoothly.
Arvella thanked Paul Schmeil for all his
help in the past. Paul is leaving for a
year and we all wish him Bon Voyage in his
new adventure.
The
meeting adjourned at 10:08 AM after which
Paul Schmeil gave a program on organizing
your files and folders and cleaning up your
computer.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Bissell, Secretary
