Manager's Report
May 2006
Greetings! We are now down to 116 filled spaces. This number will decrease
after this weekend as many people are leaving after Memorial Day. The weather
has been warm in the 100-107 degree mark. Today, the high is only supposed to be
97 degrees. It is a great day, but a little windy.
On May 10th, the Apache Junction Fire Department inspected the fire alarm
system. We passed with flying colors. This is good news. It was a long haul, but
now everything is working, as it should.
We have started on our summer projects. The first thing we did was to check
the windows upstairs to determine where they were leaking. We discovered that
the water was coming in the windows in the Card room and the Arts & Crafts room.
Maintenance took care of this problem. The Sewing room is leaking from the roof.
We discovered a couple of broken tiles on the southwest edge of the roof. The
Roofing Company will be here on Thursday to give us an estimate on replacing the
tile. We also have some broken tiles over the front portico of the main
building. I will have these replaced too, so we won’t have to worry about leaks
there.
Our painting projects are coming along nicely. The Computer Club room and the
Card Room upstairs have been painted. The new cabinets are ordered and should be
delivered about the time the Arts & Crafts Room is completed. The color choices
by the Interior Design Team are awesome!! I am very pleased with the way it
looks. So pleased, in fact, that I painted two walls in my den at home with a
similar color. It is exciting to see the results and I can’t wait to see it with
the carpet laid and blinds up.
Our next endeavor will be the sewing room. We have changed the color in there
to make it lighter so that there is enough light for the ladies to see the small
stitches they use. We will use the same color but will have it mixed lighter.
The ladies have already painted their lockers, so it won’t take long to paint
this room. We will wait until the roof leak has been fixed before we paint.
Last Friday, May 19th, we started the small pool project. Larry and Kris got
in the pool (tough job) and cleaned the tile with pumice stone. Today, Monday,
we drained the small pool, cleaned it and put the water back in. This way we
have totally clean water to start our new salt system. Tuesday, the people from
Leslie’s Pools will be here to install the salt chlorination system and
Wednesday the auto controller to control ph will be installed. We are fortunate
that the vice-president of Cat Controllers will be here in person to install the
system. He will be using this installation as a workshop for technicians in the
Phoenix area.
The Shuffleboard refinishing is underway. They have the boards almost
stripped. The new paint finish will not be applied until later in the fall as
the sun just fades it. The new company is doing a very good job. They have been
reliable and are cleaning up after themselves.
Summer is definitely here. Jan and Mary in Activities will only be working
through the end of next week, June 2nd. Wanda will be going on vacation next
week to Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho. They will be gone for three weeks. Look for
some beautiful pictures from them as they travel.
I’ll be continuing this news update again at the end of next month. Until
then … Bye
Dell
