Today we have 545 spaces full, 31 renters and 513 owners.
Last year at this time, we had 482 owners and 44 renters for a total of 526. So
you can see that we are continuing our trend of being ahead of last year.
As our populations grow, I think it is important to
reiterate a few basic safety rules. First, remember that the speed limit is 10
mph. Secondly, walkers should be walking facing traffic and not going the same
direction. This is especially important in the early morning and the after dark
hours. Also, we have blinking lights (flashers) available in the Activities
Office for $3.00. It is a good way to ensure that you will be visible. Third,
remember that bicyclists should obey the same rules of the road as cars. That
means no riding on the wrong side of the street, sliding through stop signs and
speeding. Try to remember that hitting someone on a bicycle will hurt both
parties. Fourth, golf carts are bigger than bicycles, but smaller than cars.
Try to drive defensively. We don’t want anyone hurt.
Our 10 mph sign will be set up again today to remind
vendors and residents that their speed is sometimes more than 10. Please take
special care to keep your speed down and please stop at the stop signs.
I am happy to report that Qwest put in the loop Sunday for
the new T-1 ordered for the Wifi. This means the T-1 will be available by the
end of the month. The other 3 T-1s will be installed by the end of the year.
This is good news for WiFi users as it increases band width. With 120
subscribers on our system, this increased bandwidth should help with slow downs
from so many users. We have sold 73 antennas.
I have been in contact with SRP concerning the
availability of increasing our electrical power to the main complex. They are
supposed to send a designer out to check on the availability of power coming
from the transformers. Hopefully, they will send someone out this week to check
it out. This way we will know for sure what it will take to increase our power
for new projects in the recreation complex.
I met with Barry Jones on Friday to work on updating our
reserve study. We did 2003 and 2004 and I have 2005 and most of 2006 ready. I
plan to finish it as soon as I can so we can answer the question about our
reserve deficit.
In response to correspondence last week from Barbara Papp,
I have posted the last dryer toward the west in the main laundry as the dryer
where people are asked not to use dryer sheets. I have also posted the four
machines by the store room to only start they one at a time instead of all four
at once. If only two are to used, pick every other one instead of those side by
side. Our wall drains are too small for these machines to empty out at the
same time. We have 2 inch drains in the wall. These large capacity washers
empty too fast for the lines to drain properly. Even though we had Cooper’s
Sewer here in the fall to clean them out, they are too small to take all the
water from these washer’s at one time. We can try and see if that makes a
difference. It saves having water all over the floor in the there.
Also, in response to the small pool complaints, I took two
samples of water to be tested at two different companies. The one from Paddock
pools still showed a little low on alkalinity, but everything else was fine.
The test from Leslie’s showed results all in the normal range. The
interesting thing to me was that the ranges from both companies were different.
Also, the method of testing differed. Paddock’s used a test strip then put it
in a machine for an analysis. Leslie’s used the actual chemical drops, the same
way that we test. If anyone would like to view these test results, I am happy
to share them.
Landscape has been busy working on the perimeter. We had
a water leak on the East wall behind lot 497 and another one on the northside
of the east gate, where they had to replace two valves. Another valve at the
horseshoe pits was also replaced. Tomorrow, Dave will go to the nursery to pick
up palm tree replacements.
As most of you know, we have a skunk in the park. He has
evidently lived here awhile and is very smart. Since the Animal Control people
won’t take a skunk and neither with the Fish and Game Department, we have hired
a company called Critter Getters to trap the skunk. For far, the skunk is
winning!
I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. If you are
traveling, be careful and have a great Holiday.
