Today we have 847 spaces full with 724
owners and 123 renters. We had approximately the same amount here last
January.
It seems that our skunk population has
decreased as our people population increased. We have pulled the skunk traps as
we didn’t catch any skunks and we haven’t spotted the big fellow that was seen
all over earlier in the fall. He must have decided that it was too crowded here
for him.
Over the Christmas holidays we repaired a
water leak on a six inch line at space 1051. Unfortunately, this took two full
days so several people were inconvenienced. We have identified six valves that
will need to be replaced this summer. They are single four inch valves so the
cost will not be exorbitant. The good news is that without the isolation
valves installed a few years ago, the whole park would have been without water
while the leak was repaired. We always hope that when a water leak like this is
repaired we will see some evidence on the water bill.
We consume a lot of water every month. On
the November bill running from October 18th through November 14th we
consumed 2,049,800 gallons. On the December bill, November 15th through
December 19th, that went up to 2,689,500 gallons. The price per
gallon averages ½ cent depending on the total gallons. This does not sound like
much until you multiply by the number of gallons. The water cost for the
November bill was $10,599.73 and December was $13,767.54. As our population
grows so does our water consumption, this is to be expected.
Last year in January between the 18th
and the 26th of February, we used 4,292,800 gallons of water. I
believe the leak in the Library building accounts for many thousand gallons of
that use. I would like to issue a challenge to cut that amount by one million
gallons for the same billing period this year.
We are asking people to conserve water as
much as possible. Don’t run the water when you brush your teeth or shave in the
morning. Any effort on the part of the residents will have a positive impact on
the water usage. Also, if you have any water leaks on your lots, report them
immediately so we can take care of them. The park is responsible for the line
up to and including the hose bib. Many times the fittings just need to be
tightened.
The other obvious cost of water is for
landscaping. We are trying to balance a beautiful park and lower water costs at
the same time. We have cut down the size of flower beds, removed grass in
several areas, and cut down the amount of days and minutes on the irrigation of
plants, flowers and trees. We have also drastically reduced the times we hose
off the front portico at the main entrance and the patio. Please feel free to
offer suggestions and solutions on this issue.
WiFi refunds are processed through the
main office. If you are dissatisfied with the service, a refund will be given
on a prorated basis, minus our costs. Larry Martin has a report on the WiFi
System.
